Will windows 7 fly or fall?

Well if you have used the release candidate for windows 7, then like me you may have been excited to see all the new features and pretty interface. You may have been impressed by how responsive it was, and how it recognized all the drivers! But after some time, and loading all you programs, a couple hundred music downloads, and maybe playing some games here and there.. things start to change. Well at least for me they did. Now my browser keep crashing, it doesn't recognize my internet connection all the time, and the interface still is some what of a resource hog. Its just really now starting to piss me off! Nice try Microsoft... almost got it, leaps and bounds better then vista, but xp 64 bit still wins this one i think...

What if you could have two CPUs capable of chewing through 16 threads simultaneously in your desktop PC? That's probably not going to be cheap no matter what, but German site Hardware Aktuell says you can look forward to something like that from Intel next year: the company is cooking up a Core i7-flavored version of its Skulltrail enthusiast platform.

The first-generation Skulltrail platform features a strange mix of server and desktop hardware, setting re-badged workstation processors together in a dual-CPU motherboard that supports both CrossFire and SLI multi-GPU configurations. Hardware Aktuell's story doesn't say much about the Core i7 version of Skulltrail, but it mentions the platform will retain support from both AMD's and Nvidia's multi-GPU schemes.

Skulltrail v2.0 reportedly won't come out until early 2009, (still waiting!) The story goes on to say Intel could demo its new baby at the Intel Developer Forum in Taipei, Taiwan on October 20-21, much like it did last year with the first Skulltrail iteration.

Microsoft To Launch Avatar Marketplace This Fall

Microsoft's Avatar Marketplace, announced earlier this summer at E3 Expo, is going live this fall as part of the next major update to the Xbox 360 Dashboard. The Avatar Marketplace allows Xbox 360 users to earn and purchase virtual goods that let them customize their avatar's appearance. The range of virtual goods Microsoft is rolling out for avatars includes branded apparel, animated items called props, and items only earned by playing specific games called "awardables."

A host of screenshots released by Microsoft reveal some details regarding avatar pricing and how the store will be laid out. It looks like avatar clothing choices are separated by gender and then by a variety of styles that don't necessarily reflect real-world fashion. As seen in the image included with this post, one of the potential items for a female avatar to buy is the "Steampunk Brown Jacket and Bust" for 160 Microsoft Points ($2).

Michael Jackson: Sony nearing deal for feature film using rehearsal footage

There's a bidding war going on for big-screen rights to Michael Jackson's final rehearsal footage, and according to reports in Variety and the Los Angeles Times, Sony Pictures is close to sealing the deal with an offer of over $50 million. AEG Entertainment reportedly has up to 80 hours of footage from Jackson's rehearsals for his planned "This Is It!" comeback concerts, which he continued working on through the day before his June 25 death. In addition, the feature film -- which could be out as soon as this fall -- would reportedly include interstitial videos shot for the concert series. High School Musical director Kenny Ortega, who helped plan the concerts and shot the footage, is rumored as the feature film's potential director; he's also set to direct "a prime-time television special based around staging and choreography that Jackson personally created" for the concerts, according to the Times.

Given the quality of the brief rehearsal clip that was released early this month (below), this sounds to me like a movie worth watching. One of the saddest things about Jackson's untimely passing is that it robbed us all of the chance to see what he had planned for those London dates -- something that a well-done film edited down from that mountain of rehearsal footage might help address. But what do you think? Would you pay to see a movie based on Michael Jackson's last rehearsals, wait until it hit DVD, or skip it altogether? Tell us why in the comments section.

A reduction in Human Interaction?

I started this blog to discuss the virtualization of society today, from texting instead of talking, to social sites like facebook, myspace, and twitter. Virtual tv like youtube, and interactive gaming like everquest, world of warcraft and eve. How is this affecting today sociaty? Is it for the better or the worse? I want for people to post their feelings, about it, or tell a story about something that happened in your virtual life. Express your opinions about these new technologies shaping our everyday lives.
